Artist's Comments

Model: *illiara

I'll be adding this one to my fairy tale card collection momentarily. However I just wanted to share with you the beauty of this finished product.

Just adore such transformation of a body being provoked by magic.

*removed tree steming out from the front of her.
*blended gown together more fluently with the wings
*added more highlights in necessary areas

Critiques

:iconilliara:
The various layers of color through the leaves is very effective and mirrors the ripples from the lake perfectly. At the same time the lighter leaves act as a focal point completing the sphere of light emanating from the Princess.

The tree roots reaching into the water distracts from the image, but I feel that it would detract from the composition if it were removed. Perhaps if the girth of the tree trunk were widened or widening the entire tree... moving the tree to the right would be a mistake because it would disrupt the diagonal that coincides with the body of the Princess.

Love love love! that the wings stem from the LOWER part of the dress; what a wonderful reinvention of the use of wings in costume design! The wings on the Princess herself add a fullness to her dress as though they were a part of the flowing hemline while their positioning as shown in the reflection gives her torso a beautiful elongation. That in conjunction with her upturned face gives a visual reminiscence of a swan ascending in flight.

A few technical critiques. I think the wings should be better blended into the dress where the two meet. The distinction between the two is a bit distracting. My eye also finds slight patterns every so often throughout the grass. It's difficult to invent randomness, but perhaps using the Warp Tool to add a bit of variation along the top of the wind blown grass?...

This is a gorgeous piece and one of your best photomanipulations yet. There is just so much movement and magic happening. Your use of color and layers in the grass and leaves gives the piece just the right feeling of depth, while still maintaining a fairytale or storybook feeling to it. It strikes a wonderful balance between looking "just real enough" and "just pretend enough". The wings are a nice touch as they are very subtle and don't stand out immediately at first glance, but are very clear against her dress a moment or two after the first glance. The transformation looks very natural.

At first glance I thought perhaps that the water somehow didn't blend with the rest of the piece. But as I looked at it more, it really works. The water, the magic effects, and the princess are all connected together and this is where all of the magic is happening.

Thank you lori. I was glad I could take just a breather from producing things for work, school and such. I've started on your video yesterday. I've been trying to find the right music for it. So ecstatic. So took a break from critiquing and produced this. Alas, my folly with the wood has been corrected. hahah how embarressing.
